In 1997, after three years of asceticism at the MOULIN GALLAND factory (now FERMOB) where he reinvented the entire catalogue of outdoor furniture including the legendary “Square” chair– to be found in the most famous squares of the world such as Times Square in New York. Chafik was awarded, jointly with the Moulin-Galland brand, the Nombre d’Or prize, there by endorsing an exemplary collaboration between a manufacturer and designer. VIA (Furniture Innovation Development) also dedicated a personal exhibition to him. And his Ying chair – designed for Hugues Chevalier was chosen by the Hotel Matignon, where it still furnishes the prestigious reception rooms for the Prime Minister. Ying chair also furnishes the lounges of Shangri-La Hotel in Paris.
